Haivision Brings Sports Radio to Life, Powering WFAN’s Carton & Roberts Simulcast on SNY

SNY, an Emmy Award–winning regional sports network covering New York teams, needed a way to simulcast WFAN’s Carton & Roberts radio show on television that would carry multiple camera feeds from the radio studio to the TV facility. The challenge was to deliver fully synchronous, multi‑camera video over IP in a cost‑ and bandwidth‑efficient way, with near‑silent equipment for use in a radio environment. To meet these needs SNY deployed Haivision solutions, including Makito X encoders/decoders, the SRT Gateway/protocol, and Haivision Play monitoring tools.

Haivision implemented a Makito X4 encoder/decoder pair with Stream Sync to provide single‑frame synchronized playout of four live feeds, a Makito X H.264 encoder for return feeds, and SRT for secure low‑latency transport; Haivision Play Pro provides confidence monitoring for producers. The system has run flawlessly since late May 2021 during the weekday simulcasts, delivering high quality across four feeds while reducing reliance on expensive bandwidth and lowering operational costs, and SNY cites Haivision’s reliable performance and strong support as key benefits.
