Diamond Aircraft enables special mission aircraft with Haivision, supporting over 100 MPP aircraft in operation

Diamond Aircraft, an Austrian manufacturer of certified piston aircraft, sought to provide turnkey special mission aircraft solutions for surveillance and reconnaissance. Their challenge was to find a cost-efficient alternative to traditional satellite networks for video backhaul, as transporting video over constrained networks without dedicated bandwidth was extremely difficult. They partnered with Haivision to overcome this.

Haivision provided a solution using its Makito X video encoders and Kraken video transcoder on the aircraft, leveraging low latency HEVC compression and the SRT protocol to send video at bitrates as low as 100kbps. This enabled reliable video transport over constrained networks. As a result, more than 100 of Diamond Aircraft's special mission aircraft are now in operation worldwide, providing intelligence and security for various government and agency missions.
