Brigham & Women’s Hospital Chooses Haivision’s Secure Furnace IP Video Distribution System to Help Advance Medical Education

Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching institution, needed a secure way to connect its surgical simulation labs to workstations and viewers outside the lab so surgeons and trainees could watch procedures in real time for education and case review. To meet this need the hospital selected Haivision’s Furnace IP video distribution system along with Makito HD H.264 encoders (plus Stingray set‑top boxes and the InStream player) to enable remote, high‑quality streaming.

Haivision integrated multiple HD video sources from room and endoscopic cameras and patient monitors into the Makito encoder and distributed/recorded the streams via the Furnace system; Stingray decoders and the InStream player provide live and VOD access on conference room displays, desktops and mobile devices. The result is HIPAA‑compliant, encrypted streaming that lets clinicians securely view and review simulated procedures from multiple locations, improving teaching efficiency, case review capabilities and scheduling coordination.
