Elo POS identifies 250,000 SKUs at 45 FPS with Hailo

Elo POS, a provider of point-of-sale systems, sought to enhance retail automation and accuracy with a real-time, camera-based checkout solution. The challenge was to create a system capable of instantly and reliably identifying a vast number of products directly at the edge without relying on cloud processing. They partnered with vendor Hailo to implement this using the Hailo-8 AI accelerator.

The solution implemented by Hailo used the Hailo-8 processor to run UltronAI’s Retail CV software directly on the Elo POS device. This enabled the system to accurately identify and match over 250,000 SKUs at a rate of 45 frames per second, delivering a seamless checkout experience even as products moved quickly across the counter. The results included the elimination of cloud processing needs, ensuring low latency, scalability, and customer privacy, while transforming the existing retail system into an intelligent, autonomous platform.
