A HackerEarth Case Study

Preview of the State Bank of India Case Study

How India’s largest bank spearheads digital transformation

State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest bank, faced a rapid digital-transformation challenge as customer behavior shifted to digital payments after demonetization. To accelerate innovation, open up banking APIs, and engage startups and developers, SBI partnered with HackerEarth and used HackerEarth’s Innovation Management platform to run API-based hackathons and crowdsource solutions.

HackerEarth delivered and managed the hackathon ecosystem—helping SBI open its APIs (and 12 partner APIs), market events, and connect with developers through campaigns like Code for Bank and Digitize for Bank. The effort drew more than 7,000 participants across two hackathons, produced 480 submitted ideas (with at least 10% exceeding expectations), saw 36 shortlisted teams and 3 winners, and enabled SBI to prototype and service-virtualize APIs more rapidly—all powered by HackerEarth’s platform and support.
