Monitoring underground garbage containers in Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilservice Group, the public utilities provider for Tbilisi, Georgia, faced the challenge of monitoring newly installed underground garbage containers across the city and dispatching collection trucks only when containers were full. They turned to Gurtam (using the Wialon platform) and its local Wialon partner GeoGPS to deliver a telematics and IoT-based fill-level monitoring solution.

Gurtam’s Wialon partner GeoGPS built custom battery-powered ultrasonic sensors with GSM/micro-SIM connectivity, integrated via an API into the Wialon-based system to provide configurable measurement intervals, alerts, mapping, and reporting. The solution enabled online monitoring and full alerts for 90 containers (planned expansion to 200), reduced overfilled bins and odors, improved collection efficiency, and delivered long-lasting sensors (up to 10 years battery life and up to 10,000 transmissions).
