A Gurtam Case Study
Irish Rail engaged Gurtam partner GMT Connect to optimize train maintenance and operations and to cut fuel costs after factory-installed fuel sensors failed. The failure left crews unable to monitor fuel levels, forced unnecessary depot refueling (adding about 1.5 hours per train), increased idling, and prevented remote monitoring of unforeseen stops and incidents. GMT Connect proposed a solution built around Gurtam’s Wialon platform together with DCT trackers and Technoton fuel level sensors.
GMT Connect implemented Wialon with DCT trackers and Technoton sensors to enable real-time fuel monitoring, remote train control and idling management. The Gurtam-based solution reduced fuel consumption by 10% (about 30 liters less per 100 km), cut idling time by 80% and lowered labor costs by 40%, and helped the Gurtam partner secure additional train-monitoring contracts across Ireland, Great Britain and Western Europe.
