How Bon Secours Mercy Health is Creating its Future Workforce Through Career Pathways

Bon Secours Mercy Health, a large not-for-profit faith-based health system with about 60,000 associates and more than 1,200 care sites, faced acute and growing talent shortages across the healthcare industry and needed a long-term strategy to build the workforce of the future. To expand access to education and create clear internal mobility, Bon Secours Mercy Health partnered with Guild Education to launch an employer-backed program of academic offerings and mapped career pathways tied to upskilling and credentials.

Guild Education implemented a data-driven solution combining 120+ clinical certifications and degree programs from 15+ institutions, personalized coaching, and fully funded tuition assistance across priority pathways (nursing, nursing support, lab/technical, respiratory therapy, and medical assistants). The program targeted 48,000 associates and saw rapid uptake—over 2,000 associates (including 400+ nurses) enrolled within weeks—and student funnel metrics reporting 7,100 accounts completed and 850 applications approved, demonstrating measurable progress in building an internal talent pipeline for Bon Secours Mercy Health.
