Visa Communicates the Value of Equity Compensation to a Global Workforce

Visa, a global payments technology company with about 14,000 employees, needed to roll out a new Employee Stock Purchase Plan (branded “V Shares”) across 22 countries after employee feedback from its “Build a Better Visa” initiative. The challenge was to educate a diverse, largely non-public-company workforce about equity compensation, navigate regional regulatory differences, and deliver clear, digestible communications that would drive participation.

Visa used a phased, region-customized communications program combining in-person and virtual sessions, multi-channel messaging, an internal V Shares website and on-demand GuideSpark videos, plus a leadership dashboard to track engagement. The approach drove strong results: roughly 56% global participation (55.5% reported in some materials), 100% participation in Taiwan and a 111% increase in India, while helping build a culture of employee shareholders and informing plans to apply the same approach to Restricted Stock Units.
