Equinix Embraces Ongoing Performance Conversations to Drive Global Growth

Equinix, a global data center and internet-exchange provider with about 5,000 employees across 40 markets, needed to overhaul a traditional annual, rating-focused performance system to support rapid international growth. Leadership gave HR six months to move from rankings and scores to a simpler, more dynamic approach that would strengthen manager–employee connections and focus conversations on individual growth and business outcomes.

The company launched four quarterly growth conversations, an annual six-question performance assessment, and bi‑annual Pulse surveys, supported by GuideSpark’s multilingual communications and a manager microsite to drive adoption. In six months the program was in place: 75% of managers reported changing how they view performance, Pulse participation rose to 87%, 73% of employees were rated “highly engaged,” HR time dropped 50%, and the organization saw stronger accountability, clearer pay differentiation, and ongoing plans for refinement.
