ABB Increases Wellness Participation by Engaging Employees Year-Round

ABB, a Fortune 500 leader in robotics, power and automation headquartered in Zürich with 150,000 employees globally (about 20,000 in the U.S.), needed to transform its wellness program from one‑time incentives to year‑round, activity‑based engagement. The workforce is widely dispersed and includes many employees without company email or home internet, so communicating program value to employees and spouses and simplifying complex wellness topics were major challenges.

By using GuideSpark’s multi‑channel, multimedia platform—email, social, intranet, postcards, posters—plus incentives for tracking activities, gamification, and local Wellness Champions, ABB made wellness content accessible on any device and added new qualifying activities (volunteering, health coaching). Participation in online programs climbed from under 20% in 2013 to 32% in 2015, more employees completed screenings and assessments, and analytics enabled continuous improvement and sustained engagement.
