Globalization and Global Trade Drive Renewed Focus on Supply Chain Visibility

Aberdeen Group faced a growing challenge of supply chain complexity driven by globalization, with more suppliers, carriers, countries, and cross-channel shipping formats increasing the need for better visibility and collaboration. As part of its research, Aberdeen Group highlighted the pressure on discrete manufacturers to improve end-to-end supply chain visibility, and used GT Nexus as the example vendor for a cloud-based global visibility platform.

GT Nexus implemented a collaborative cloud visibility solution that connected shipment milestone updates from carriers with Web and EDI inputs from trading partners, giving Aberdeen Group’s case example real-time track-and-trace visibility from factory to customer delivery. The result was faster issue escalation, daily performance reporting, and better management of logistics operations; in the case study example, the solution also supported analysis of roughly $400 million in annual transportation spend and improved control across a global network of about 25 carriers and worldwide distribution centers.
