Swedish Nuclear Power Plant Gets Severe Accident Simulation Modeling Tool PSA-HD™

KSU, the Swedish nuclear training organization, needed to upgrade its Ringhals Unit 2 simulator to better support severe accident analysis and operator training. GSE Solutions provided the upgrade using RELAP5-HD, JTopmeret, SIMULATE-3R, and PSA-HD to create a more advanced platform for preliminary safety analysis and scenario exploration.

GSE Solutions increased the fidelity of the reactor models, fully integrated the simulator with PSA-HD, and enabled the system to represent severe accident scenarios driven by operator actions rather than pre-defined sequences. The result was a highly professional and extensively tested upgrade that produced good model results, and the upgraded Ringhals 2 simulator became the first and only Swedish nuclear power plant simulator used for severe accident training, now in use for R2 operator training.
