Malaysian LNG Plant to Use GSE Operator Training Simulator (OTS) Prior to Plant Commissioning

PETRONAS, Malaysia’s integrated petroleum company, needed to prepare for the expansion of its LNG Complex in Bintulu and validate the new control system before startup. GSE Solutions provided a full-scope operator training simulator using its JPro process simulation software to support pre-commissioning testing and operator training for the LNG facility.

GSE Solutions implemented a simulator that modeled the entire LNG liquefaction cycle, including gas treatment, liquefaction, and fractionation, to test and validate Emerson’s DCS, identify control logic issues, and support initial controller tuning. The solution was intended to help PETRONAS bring the plant online ahead of schedule and avoid DCS-related shutdowns during commissioning, while adding roughly 3.6 million tons of annual LNG capacity with the ninth train.
