How Lemonade improves application performance monitoring & plans to replace Datadog’s APM with groundcover

Lemonade, a leading insure-tech company, faced significant challenges in managing application performance monitoring for its complex, high-growth microservices architecture on Kubernetes. Their primary monitoring solution, Datadog, resulted in massive and rapidly growing costs. The high data volumes and the manual labor required to manage their observability stack created substantial overhead for their small DevOps team.

The vendor groundcover provided a solution using its eBPF-based observability platform, which is installed via a Daemonset on Kubernetes. This provided Lemonade with high-cardinality metrics and deep visibility without requiring code instrumentation, simplifying rollout and integration. As a result, Lemonade gained improved troubleshooting capabilities with auto-detected issues and plans to replace Datadog's APM to achieve a more cost-effective and scalable monitoring solution.
