Case Study: Hackney Empire modernizes access control with JanusC4 from Grosvenor Technology

A Grosvenor Technology Case Study

Preview of the Hackney Empire Case Study

A system upgrade by Grosvenor Technology brought the iconic Hackney Empire up to date with their security

Hackney Empire, one of London’s most historic performance venues, needed to replace a legacy access control system that had been in place for more than 25 years. The outdated swipe-based setup no longer met modern security needs, lacked the flexibility for granular permissions across a busy multi-use site, and had to be upgraded carefully to protect the fabric of the Grade II* listed building. Grosvenor Technology was chosen to support the move to its JanusC4 access control platform.

Grosvenor Technology worked with Hall & Kay to migrate the site from Sateon to JanusC4 across 24 doors, using HID iClass high-frequency readers and credentials and configuring role-based access permissions for staff. The upgrade delivered stronger security, reduced cloning risk, and a future-ready platform with minimal disruption to operations. Hackney Empire retained a trusted technology partner in Grosvenor Technology, while Hall & Kay’s trained engineers completed the installation to a high standard.
