Toyota launches multiplatform VR safety training with Groove Jones for 2 devices

Toyota Motor of North America faced the challenge of making machine risk assessment safety training engaging and effective for its team members. They hired vendor Groove Jones to produce and develop a virtual reality experience to teach employees how to assess risks associated with new equipment on the factory floor.

Groove Jones implemented a VR app that presents users with a piece of factory equipment featuring a random subset of potential safety hazards in each session. This design introduced replayability and ensured users gained broader training. The solution, built for both the HTC Focus 3 headset and desktop computers, tested users on identifying hazards, determining their nature, and selecting appropriate countermeasures, providing a scored result at the end. By offering the training on two different platforms, Groove Jones helped Toyota extend the program's reach to a larger audience.
