Wendy’s franchise owner Raul Dominguez in south Florida needed a better way to control rising energy costs and operational inefficiencies in his quick-serve restaurants, where heavy kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and HVAC systems drive high energy use. To address the challenge, he evaluated GridPoint’s Energy Management System (EMS), including submetering and lighting control, in a test store.
GridPoint’s EMS helped automate thermostat settings, lighting, refrigeration monitoring, and temperature zoning, giving Dominguez better control and visibility across the store. The results were immediate: he saw about 12% monthly energy cost savings from day one, expanded the system to 11 more locations, and later reported more than 14% ongoing monthly energy-use reduction in the original store, with savings large enough to cover lease payments and deliver a return within weeks.
