A GridPoint Case Study
The National Government Agency, committed to meeting federal energy conservation goals and reducing its environmental footprint, needed to make its buildings more energy efficient across a distributed portfolio. To achieve this, the agency engaged GridPoint and deployed the GridPoint Energy Management System (EMS) with submetering and control to monitor and manage HVAC, lighting and other building systems.
GridPoint implemented the EMS in a pilot (single site, then a 16-site trial), installing sensors, submetering and automated controls to prevent thermostat tampering, automate HVAC, control lighting zones and detect equipment failures. GridPoint’s solution delivered measurable results—an average 15% energy savings across the 16-site pilot (individual sites up to 31%), a trial showing 19% electricity and 61% natural gas reductions, recovery of project costs in under 16 months, more than three billion BTUs and over one million pounds of carbon avoided, and a follow-on contract to deploy systems in up to 2,250 facilities.
