A GridPoint Case Study
Chinook Systems, a commissioning consulting firm focused on the federal sector, was engaged to retrocommission a 450,000 sq. ft. metropolitan hospital that had drifted away from optimal settings since its BMS installation in 2002. Facing high energy use per square foot and the need to reduce consumption without compromising emergency power or patient comfort, Chinook partnered with GridPoint and deployed GridPoint’s asset-level submetering and cloud-based analytics SaaS to collect real-time operational data and validate predictive energy models.
GridPoint installed 66 submeters that logged 15-minute interval data (about 44,000 points per week), giving Chinook the visibility to baseline equipment, rebalance air handling units, and validate control and capital decisions. The work yielded measurable impacts: a rebalance saved roughly 70 kW (~$30,000/year), replacing six cooling tower fans with VFDs was projected to save $21,000/year, and the hospital avoided a nearly $2 million generator purchase—while GridPoint’s platform enabled continuous optimization and created a new recurring, high‑margin SaaS and professional‑services revenue stream for Chinook Systems.
