Burger King franchisee deploys GridPoint’s EMS across entire fleet

TOMS King, a quick-serve restaurant operator that owns and operates 59 Burger King restaurants across Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, needed better visibility into asset-level energy use and a way to optimize HVAC and lighting without sacrificing customer comfort. In April 2013 TOMS King began deploying GridPoint’s energy management system — including GridPoint Energy Manager, HVAC and lighting controls, asset-level submetering, and GridPoint’s Energy Advisory and Control Support Services — to identify savings opportunities and improve operational oversight.

GridPoint implemented HVAC and lighting controls, extensive submetering and monitoring, intelligent HVAC Setback/Recovery and Load Curtailment algorithms, plus dashboards, custom reports, alarms and advisory support. The solution scaled from six pilot Burger King sites to TOMS King’s full 59-restaurant portfolio, delivering substantial energy savings by eliminating unnecessary cooling and lighting during unoccupied hours, reducing demand peaks, improving detection of HVAC and refrigeration issues, and providing ongoing operational controls to sustain lower energy costs — all enabled by GridPoint.
