How Rovio accelerated LQA by 4x with Gridly

Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds, faced a challenge in efficiently conducting localization quality assurance (LQA) for their game, Small Town Murders. The manual, in-game LQA process was highly time-consuming, limiting testers to checking only 250 text strings per day and often causing this crucial final step to be rushed or skipped. This slowed down their ability to release polished game updates to players.

The vendor, Gridly, provided a localization management solution that integrated with a custom Unity script. This script automatically generated in-game screenshots and uploaded them directly into Gridly, allowing testers to instantly compare text strings to their corresponding visuals all in one place. This streamlined workflow enabled Rovio’s testers to check 1,000 strings per day, quadrupling their LQA productivity and accelerating the release of game updates.
