SuperValu, a large Irish grocery retailer, partnered with the vendor GridBeyond to address the challenge of managing its energy consumption and remaining competitive. The goal was to find a way to significantly reduce energy costs without ever compromising the customer shopping experience or the integrity of refrigerated products.

GridBeyond implemented its technology to provide automated control of the supermarket's energy use. The solution included peak avoidance strategies, the optimization of refrigerated assets, and smart controls for lighting and HVAC systems. As a result, SuperValu achieved a reduced carbon footprint, generated new revenue from grid balancing services, and realized enhanced savings across more than 30 retail sites, all while maintaining full operational integrity.
