Case Study: Swire Properties advances ESG performance and green financing with GRESB

A GRESB Case Study

Preview of the Swire Properties Case Study

Hong Kong-listed Swire Properties places ESG performance and data at the center of its sustainable development strategy

Swire Properties, a Hong Kong-listed real estate developer, aimed to become a global sustainability leader by 2030 but needed to identify specific opportunities for improvement within its strategy. Through its participation in the annual GRESB Real Estate Benchmark, the company was able to benchmark its performance and discovered its renewable energy adoption lagged behind industry peers.

GRESB’s benchmarking provided the critical data that enabled Swire Properties to identify and act on this opportunity. The solution involved securing off-site renewable power purchase agreements, which resulted in two major mixed-use developments in China being 100% powered by renewable electricity. This achievement, a first for its region, avoids approximately 19,000 tonnes of CO2e annually. Furthermore, the GRESB data was instrumental in developing a green financing strategy, with 45% of the company's facilities now linked to sustainability performance.
