A GRESB Case Study

Preview of the Brookfield India Real Estate Trust Case Study

Brookfield India REIT demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and net-zero transition through GRESB

Brookfield India Real Estate Trust (BIRET) sought to benchmark and improve its ESG performance to support its strategic goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. The real estate investment trust turned to the GRESB framework to assess its portfolio, gain industry insights, and identify areas for improvement to navigate the transition to a sustainable future and comply with new regulations like India's Business Responsibility & Sustainability Reporting (BRSR).

By participating in the GRESB benchmark, Brookfield India REIT gained valuable data that helped craft focused strategies in energy conservation and waste management. This led to tangible initiatives, including the installation of 1.41 MWp of solar capacity and the development of a new waste reduction strategy. The use of GRESB provided a framework that aligned with global standards and directly supported BRSR compliance. As a result of these efforts, BIRET achieved a five-star GRESB rating in its very first year of participation.
