Supporting Advanced Telemedicine throughout a Mountainous Region

Regional Obstetrical Consultants (ROC) runs the STORC telemedicine program delivering high-risk pregnancy care across rural Tennessee, north Georgia and western North Carolina from five providers, three offices and nine telemedicine clinics. For years the outreach was paper-based and the old EMR couldn’t connect from remote sites, forcing caregivers to work from paper charts, rekey records later and struggle with inconsistent charting and billing verification.

In early 2011 ROC deployed Greenway PrimeSUITE integrated with Cisco TelePresence and a pregnancy imaging system so patient records and templates are available at every office and telemedicine site. The change eliminated paper charts, unified charting across providers, improved practice efficiency and billing, expanded access and referrals, and delivered telemedicine care comparable to in‑clinic visits while positioning the program for more mobile, portable care.
