Second Time Around, Boulder Community Hospital Knew What It Wanted in an EHR

Boulder Community Hospital, a not-for-profit health system serving Boulder since 1922 with multiple hospitals and clinics, faced mounting physician frustration with a legacy electronic medical record that few clinicians had chosen. With 16 facilities and plans to expand, the hospital needed a flexible, shared EHR to unify care across providers and to support its commitment to statewide data sharing as an early CORHIO participant.

After a two-year selection process driven by a broad stakeholder committee, BCH implemented Greenway’s PrimeSUITE in a big‑bang rollout (with full data migration) supported by super-user training and a Greenway liaison. The new system improved provider communication and access to single‑screen patient histories, reduced provider workload, pleased a tech‑savvy patient base, enabled meaningful-use reporting via dashboards, and positioned the health system for interoperability and PCMH reporting.
