Doctors May·Grant and Lancaster General Health Achieve Standards-Based Interoperability and Care Coordination with Greenway and Epic EHRs

Doctors May-Grant Associates, a 33‑provider OB/GYN practice with six locations, and Lancaster General Health, a not‑for‑profit community health system with a large Women & Babies Hospital, together care for thousands of shared patients each year. Both organizations used different EHRs (Greenway PrimeSUITE in the practice and Epic in the hospital), which created fragmented records, manual workflows (printing prenatal charts in triage), inefficiencies and risk to care coordination and patient safety.

The organizations implemented standards‑based interoperability to exchange Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs) in real time (phase one went live in September 2012) and used Greenway’s patient portal for engagement. The integration preserved each EHR while delivering faster access to up‑to‑date records, improved medication reconciliation, smoother referrals, greater efficiency and revenue cycle benefits, reduced liability, better patient communication, and higher clinician and patient satisfaction.
