How the SEFA Group reduced time spent on benefits management by 60% and tax filing by up to 94%

SEFA, a leader in converting coal combustion residuals into sustainable products, was struggling with rapid geographic and headcount growth, new Affordable Care Act reporting requirements, a laborious Microsoft Dynamics GP payroll workflow, and high turnover that made benefits management difficult. To address these challenges, SEFA engaged Greenshades Software and implemented Greenshades’ Payroll Tax Service and GreenEmployee as part of the Greenshades Payroll, Tax, and HR Platform.

Greenshades Software deployed its tax filing center, payroll tax services, GreenEmployee self-service, and EDI feeds to insurers, giving employees on-demand access to pay, tax, PTO and benefits data and eliminating duplicate entry. The results included a process cut from 4 hours weekly to 15 minutes (93.75% improvement), a quarterly filing reduced from two days to about 1–2 hours (87–94% improvement), a 60% reduction in time spent on benefits management, and at least two days saved per month through EDI integrations.
