A Greenphire Case Study
UCLA, with hundreds of medical research centers and institutes, faced high participant dropout rates that threatened the quality of its clinical research. To test whether reimbursement method affected retention, UCLA randomly assigned participants to receive monthly payments either by mailed money order or instantly via Greenphire’s ClinCard, a reloadable debit card with an online portal and appointment alerts.
The ClinCard group showed higher follow-up engagement and expressed a clear preference for instant electronic payments over money orders. ClinCard also reduced staff time spent on tracking and payments by an average of 39.8 minutes per participant and lowered trial costs by about $14 per subject, improving study efficiency and participant retention.
