GreenPages Virtualizes Infrastructure, Upgrades Network and Servers, and Transitions End-of-life Applications

Lincoln Paper and Tissue, a leading U.S. manufacturer of paper and tissue products in Lincoln, Maine, needed to replace its aging Virtual Iron virtualization environment after Oracle ended support and development. Because the plant operates 24/7/365, Lincoln also needed a migration plan that would minimize disruption while modernizing both its main data center and disaster recovery site. GreenPages Technology Solution was brought in to design and implement the transition.

GreenPages Technology Solution decommissioned the Virtual Iron setup and replaced it with a VMware vSphere 4.1-based virtualized network, installing new HP servers in the main data center and reconfiguring existing servers at the DR site. GreenPages also reused existing SAN storage, set up replication with Double-Take, and migrated workloads through a staged “V to V” conversion. The result was a simplified, mirrored environment that improved manageability, supported mission-critical applications, and enabled successful knowledge transfer to Lincoln’s IT staff.
