A GreenOrbit Case Study
Shell, a global energy company with 130,000+ employees, faced a fragmented intranet environment—hundreds of disparate websites, multiple servers and duplicated technologies—that hindered communication and decentralized content ownership. To standardize information management, enable easy publishing for novice users, and create a scalable “front door” for employees, Shell selected GreenOrbit (formerly Intranet DASHBOARD) as its intranet platform.
GreenOrbit delivered a turnkey intranet/CMS (integrated with SharePoint) that was rolled out to 30,000 users in one week and globally within a month, generating an estimated US$1M in immediate savings and ongoing ~10% year‑on‑year cost reductions. The implementation reduced sites from 520 to 50, web servers from 20 to 1 and databases from 140 to 1, supports 696 subsites, ~150,000 published pages, about 1,000,000 visits and 43 million page views per month, cut broken links by ~70%, and empowered distributed authors through built‑in governance and easy publishing.
