A Greater Giving Case Study
Seattle Works is a Seattle-based nonprofit that connects volunteers with local causes and prepares them for board and commission service. Their annual Rock Your Community peer-to-peer campaign enlists 50 “Rock Star” fundraisers, but the organization struggled because many people give directly to partner nonprofits rather than to Seattle Works; after raising $14,000 in 2011 with matching gifts, they set a higher $17,000 goal for 2012 without a match.
To meet that goal they streamlined online giving with the Greater Giving suite, simplified and tracked donation pages with bit.ly links, and expanded social media responsibility from one staffer to the whole team and volunteers. They trained Rock Stars with templates, graphics and daily updates, used a more engaging communications voice, and employed multiple outreach channels. The result: despite no matching gifts and the same 50 fundraisers, Seattle Works hit the $17,000 target, increased funds raised per fundraiser, and saw strong support driven by Facebook and peer-to-peer outreach.
