A Greater Giving Case Study
JDRF Lincoln and Greater Nebraska, the local chapter of the global type 1 diabetes research organization, relied on an annual gala for a large portion of its budget but faced major operational challenges. Registration and checkout were slow and crowded, the silent auction area was cramped, and the team lacked an automated way to track which items sold well—holding them back from maximizing revenue at an event that previously drew about 320 guests and raised roughly $58,000.
The chapter implemented mobile bidding, tablets and mobile card readers, rigorous pre-event communication, and tighter data collection and reporting. They also streamlined check-in/out by pre-bagging winnings and handing out live-auction bid cards at tables. The result: dramatically shorter lines and a more casual guest experience, a nearly $20,000 fundraising boost the first year, continued growth to roughly 400–450 attendees, and another $10,000 increase in 2015—along with better, data-driven procurement for future events.
