Meridian Health, a 12,000-person New Jersey health care system, faced the challenge of unifying three merged hospitals and many departments around one consistent culture while improving employee engagement, patient experience, and retention. With support from Great Place to Work and its workplace culture expertise, Meridian built “The Meridian Way” and focused on leadership commitment, training, and systemwide alignment to its mission.

Great Place to Work helped validate and showcase Meridian’s culture-first approach, which included leadership development, daily huddles, and programs such as Team Meridian University. The results were strong: Meridian rose from #96 to #39 on the FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, achieved 5% voluntary turnover versus a 16.2% industry average, and saw operating revenues increase 50% from $862.5M to $1.3B, alongside above-average patient satisfaction and quality scores.
