Prestage Foods of South Carolina boosts turkey processing to 48,000 birds per day with Gray Construction

Prestage Foods of South Carolina, a division of the family-owned Prestage Farms, required a new state-of-the-art turkey processing facility to increase its production capacity and efficiency. The company selected Gray Construction to provide turnkey design and build services for this greenfield project.

Gray designed and constructed a 295,000-square-foot facility featuring the Western Hemisphere's only air-chill processing model, which greatly reduces cross-contamination risks and water consumption. The solution included 13 miles of shackle chain to process 48,000 birds per day, along with advanced automation and sanitation systems. As a result of Gray's work, the facility received the 2023 Manufacturing Innovation Award for its ingenuity and efficiency, allowing Prestage to reduce labor costs while boosting production capacity.
