Prince William County Schools Build New Digital Broadcast Operation

Prince William County Public Schools, operating the PWCS-TV channel, needed to build a new digital broadcast facility from the ground up to transition from analog operations. The challenge was to create a workflow architecture that would integrate seamlessly with their existing components, including an Omneon media server. They engaged with vendor Grass Valley and reseller The Whitlock Group to find a solution.

Grass Valley implemented a solution featuring its Sirius router, Morpheus automation system, and Masterpiece master control switcher. This integrated setup provided a seamless routing, control, and playout infrastructure. The results were significant, with the failure rate dropping to near zero and broadcast quality improving to at least three times higher than the previous analog system. Grass Valley also provided a clear roadmap for future high-definition development.
