Driving Broadcast Innovation: Grass Valley and Timeline TV Deliver Live 4K Sports

Timeline Television, a UK broadcast facilities provider, faced the challenge of building a pioneering 4K UHD outside broadcast truck in a very short timeframe for its partner, BT Sport. The project required brand new, reliable technology to deliver over 65 live UltraHD sports broadcasts annually. To meet this goal, Timeline needed to partner with expert vendors and selected Grass Valley for its Kahuna switcher and Sirius router.

The solution utilized a Grass Valley Kahuna 9600 switcher and a Sirius 840 router as the 4K backbone of the new production truck. This technology provided an end-to-end UltraHD workflow, handling multiple signal formats simultaneously with no learning curve for operators. The project was a great success, resulting in the construction of one of the world's most advanced mobile production units. This truck was used to deliver Europe's first dedicated UltraHD sports channel and to broadcast groundbreaking live events like the first NBA game shown live in UltraHD to fans.
