Takenaka Corporation delivers a 20,000 m² column-free exhibition hall with Graphisoft

Takenaka Corporation, a major Japanese construction firm, faced the challenge of designing and constructing a complex, landmark exhibition hall with a dynamic wavy roof and glass façade. The project required highly coordinated design and construction to manage intricate geometry and integrate building systems within a vast, column-free space. They utilized their own Design BIM Tool, which is based on Graphisoft's Archicad software along with Solibri for verification.

The solution involved a parametric design workflow using Rhino and Grasshopper, which was integrated into Archicad to create a detailed BIM model. Graphisoft's Archicad, central to their BIM process, enabled precise 2D drawing generation, quantity calculations, and, combined with Solibri, effective clash detection for building systems. This data-driven approach, supplemented by a full-scale physical mock-up, standardized components and improved construction safety and productivity. The successful project resulted in the completion of the Port Messe Nagoya First Exhibition Hall in 2022, achieving a high level of constructibility and efficiency for the innovative structure.
