Patterson Associates was the architect for the Len Lye Centre, a 3,000 m² single-artist museum featuring a complex, highly reflective stainless-steel colonnade and strict MEP, acoustic and heritage-integration requirements. To tackle the façade’s complicated geometry, multi-discipline coordination and tight funding constraints, Patterson Associates used Graphisoft’s ARCHICAD and BIMx as core design and collaboration tools.

Graphisoft’s ARCHICAD (with Teamwork, Shell/Morph tools and OPEN BIM/IFC workflows) and BIMx enabled a single, detailed 3D live model that streamlined consultant exchanges, export to specialist tools, on-site coordination and exhibition planning. Using Graphisoft workflows Patterson Associates cut MEP/HVAC costs significantly—moving from two plant rooms to one saved a major portion of the budget—while BIMx supported site inspections and construction decision-making throughout the two-year build.
