John Robertson Architects delivers a 35% operational energy reduction with Graphisoft

John Robertson Architects (JRA) faced the challenge of retrofitting a 1980s London office building to meet demanding sustainability targets and modern office requirements within tight site constraints and an 18-month schedule. The client, Evans Randall Investors, sought a 35% reduction in operational energy use alongside wellbeing accreditations. JRA utilized Graphisoft's Archicad BIM software from the outset to address these complex design and planning hurdles.

Using Graphisoft's Archicad, JRA created detailed 3D models to test massing proposals, optimize thermal performance, and coordinate with point-cloud surveys of the existing structure. This enabled efficient design iterations, clash detection, and clear stakeholder communication. The completed Bureau 90 Fetter Lane project achieved a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating, met the energy reduction target, and created additional lettable space, all within the project timeline.
