Financial Times boosts atrium daylight by 150% with Graphisoft

The Financial Times faced the challenge of refurbishing its historic, Grade II* listed London headquarters, Bracken House, to modern standards while navigating complex heritage and planning constraints. They partnered with architect John Robertson Architects, who utilized Graphisoft's Archicad BIM software to manage the sensitive restoration, unify disparate building sections, and upgrade facilities for 21st-century tenancy.

Using Graphisoft's Archicad, the team created a detailed BIM Level 2 model informed by point cloud surveys, which was crucial for design, stakeholder approvals, and on-site coordination. The solution enabled a 150% increase in natural light in the atrium, the successful addition of a roof terrace, and efficient clash detection. The completed BIM model was handed over for facilities management, ensuring the Financial Times returned to a fully modernized, iconic building after a 30-year absence.
