Case Study: CÉH preserves the Hungarian State Opera House with Graphisoft Archicad, BIMcloud and BIMx

CÉH models the Hungarian State Opera House with 27.5 million polygons using Graphisoft

The customer, CÉH Inc., was tasked with creating a precise architectural BIM model of the historic Hungarian State Opera House, a building in constant use, using 3D laser scanning. The challenge involved managing massive, complex point cloud data from a phased survey and overcoming hardware limitations to produce a usable model. They utilized software from vendor Graphisoft, specifically Archicad and BIMcloud, in this process.

The solution from Graphisoft involved using Archicad 19 to build the detailed model from the point clouds, while BIMcloud enabled global team collaboration on the oversized files. The result was a comprehensive and navigable BIM model containing approximately 29,000 elements, which now aids in the preservation of the national monument. Furthermore, Graphisoft's BIMx Lab technology successfully made this exceptionally large model accessible for mobile exploration.
