A Graphisoft Case Study
CÉH was commissioned to survey and create a detailed 3D model of the 130‑year‑old Hungarian State Opera House (≈25,000 m2) while the building remained in use. The challenge included extremely large raw point clouds (up to 40 million points per room), inaccessible and constantly changing spaces, complex vaulted geometries, and severe hardware/file‑size constraints. To meet this brief CÉH used Graphisoft tools including ARCHICAD 19, GRAPHISOFT BIMcloud and the BIMx Lab preview alongside Trimble RealWorks and Faro Scene for point‑cloud processing.
Using ARCHICAD 19 and GRAPHISOFT BIMcloud, CÉH converted processed E57 point‑cloud data into a navigable BIM model (final file exceeded 50 GB; ~27.5 million polygons and ≈29,000 BIM elements) and optimized libraries/layers to manage performance. Graphisoft’s BIMcloud provided global access at acceptable speeds and BIMx Lab made the massive model viewable on mobile devices, enabling ongoing renovation planning and long‑term building management — a measurable outcome that turned enormous raw datasets into a usable, shareable preservation and renovation asset.
