Bond Bryan delivers CATT's 2,500 sqm timber campus with Graphisoft

Bond Bryan faced the challenge of designing the Centre for Advanced Timber Technology, a complex educational building requiring the integration of multiple timber and steel construction techniques as a live testbed. The project demanded efficient collaboration, client presentation of evolving options, and coordination between separate structural engineering teams. They utilized Graphisoft's Archicad software to address these design and coordination challenges.

The solution implemented with Graphisoft’s Archicad enabled rapid 3D modeling, allowing the team to build the initial whole model in just three days and easily toggle between design options for client review. By incorporating structural models via IFC and using tools like the 3D fly-around and Solibri link for clash detection, coordination was streamlined. The results included accelerated decision-making, effective demonstration of the hybrid material design, and the successful delivery of a sustainable, sensor-equipped "Living Lab" that welcomed its first students in 2022.
