How UNICEF Expanded Multilingual Counseling with Real-Time AI Translation

Brave Phone, a children's rights NGO and a partner of UNICEF, faced the challenge of providing mental health support to refugee and migrant children who could not communicate in Croatian. Traditional translation methods were too slow, costly, and lacked the confidentiality needed for sensitive conversations. To overcome these language barriers, they turned to Graia and implemented its Real-Time AI Translation technology.

Graia's solution was integrated directly into the NGO's chat platform, providing instant, secure, and GDPR-compliant translation across eight languages. This allowed counselors to deliver 951 sessions, 44 of which were in foreign languages, within twelve months. The system was reported as easy to use and efficient, enabling children and families to communicate naturally in their own language for the first time and expanding access to critical psychosocial support.
