SmartLiving.Rocks, an IoT solutions provider founded by Amon Reich in Germany, needed a way to monitor the health and daily activity of an elderly parent living independently at home. Using Grafana alongside open source smart home technologies such as Home Assistant and InfluxDB, the team built an Ambient Assisted Living dashboard to help answer questions like whether the person had gotten up, made coffee, or was active as usual.

With Grafana, SmartLiving.Rocks created flexible dashboards that visualize motion sensor, energy, lighting, media, and humidity data in near real time, with interval grouping, stacking, time shift, and easy sharing with family and doctors. The solution gave the family peace of mind, supported collaboration with medical staff, and provided a low-cost alternative to hiring care or moving the parent into assisted living, while helping the senior remain independent longer.
