Olo Delivers Faster Testing and Improved Collaboration with Grafana k6

Olo, a leading on-demand commerce platform for the restaurant industry, needed a faster and more collaborative way to handle load testing across its software engineering and test teams. Its existing workflow relied on JMeter, XML-heavy test files, and a CI/CD pipeline that was not as efficient or easy to automate as the team wanted. Grafana k6, part of Grafana’s load testing offering, stood out as a more developer-friendly alternative because it uses JavaScript and is easier to integrate into modern pipelines.

Olo implemented Grafana k6 and Grafana Cloud k6 in its CI/CD pipeline to test both public and private APIs, using thresholds to automatically flag regressions before production. The teams also used Grafana’s visualization and analysis tools to review results and collaborate on fixes, which made performance testing a regular practice across engineering. As a result, Olo improved release confidence, sped up testing, and strengthened collaboration among SETs, SWEs, DBAs, and SREs while continuously improving platform reliability.
