Case Study: Verizon achieves automation and self-service with Grafana

A Grafana Case Study

Preview of the Verizon Case Study

How Verizon achieved automation and self-service with Grafana

Verizon, the global communications and media company, needed a better way to monitor a rapidly growing and increasingly complex mix of internal systems after expanding beyond traditional telecom into brands like Yahoo! and HuffPost. Its existing SSRS and SQL on Windows setup was costly, hard to scale, and cumbersome to maintain, especially when organizational changes required manual report updates.

Using Grafana and MySQL in a hybrid architecture, Verizon consolidated data sources into a single self-service monitoring platform with dynamic dashboards and fewer stored procedures. Grafana helped Verizon cut more than 500,000 lines of static code down to about 500 lines, reduce 200+ stored procedures to five, save roughly two FTEs in development effort, and dramatically reduce late-night “fire alarm” alerts and email noise.
