How Using Grafana (and Plugins) Gave a Jolt to Smart State Technology, a Company Advancing Technology for Energy Infrastructures

Smart State Technology (SST), a Netherlands-based company advancing technology for smart grids and critical energy infrastructures, needed a way to build web-based visualizations with real-time data updates for its R&D engineers and research partners. Rather than creating a custom SVG editor or a bespoke Flask/Django website, SST chose Grafana and its plugin ecosystem to quickly deliver professional-looking dashboards for complex measurement data.

Using Grafana with plugins such as FlowCharting, SVG, JSON data source, and Plotly, Smart State Technology built real-time and historical dashboards for substations, low-voltage sensors, phasors, harmonics, and DSP flows across lab workstations, laptops, and embedded systems. The result was a low-code, scalable monitoring platform that gave SST fast insight into electrical signals and power-quality issues, improved collaboration with plugin developers, and helped them deploy their system with limited effort and no wasted setup time.
